Arts & Crafts was a unique movement which triggered a veritable reform in the applied arts in England. Founded by John Ruskin, then put into practice by William Morris, the Arts & Crafts Movement promoted revolutionary ideas in Victorian England.
The Bauhaus movement (meaning the “house of building”) developed in three German cities - it began in Weimar between 1919 and 1925, then continued in Dessau, from 1925 to 1932, and finally ended in 1932-1933 in Berlin.
At a time when Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art dominated the American art world, individual artists and art collectives played a significant role in antiwar protest and inspired subsequent generations of artists.
Pop Art thus arises as not only a reflection of the dominance of mass communications and capitalist consumerism in postwar American society, but also a subversive commentary on worldviews and the factors necessary for their formation.
